Government of Kirov region

The Kirov oblast has rich historic past and cultural heritage.

There are cities and towns on the territory of the Kirov oblast which are included into the list of Russian Federation's historic locations. These cities and towns have important architectural landmarks and ensembles considered to be of national importance. The towns are Kirov, Kotelnich, Malmyzh, Nolinsk, Orlov, Slobodskoy, Sovetsk, Urzhum, Yaransk, Lalsk (the settlement of) of the Luza district, Velikoretskoe (the settlement of) of Yurya district, Ryabovo (the settlement) of the Zuevka district.

More than 3.5 thousand historic and cultural landmarks have been preserved on the territory of the Kirov oblast. 806 landmarks are protected by the State (250 historic landmarks of which 22 of federal importance), 202 architectural landmarks (13 of federal importance), 354 archeological landmarks (37 of federal importance).

Of greatest importance are the following landmarks of historic-cultural heritage:

The city of Kirov

Architectural landmarks (53 are protected by the State, 16 of the 53 are of federal importance):

  • The ensemble of the St.Triphon Assumption monastery, 17-20 century
  • The ensemble of the Transfiguration nunnery, end of 18th century
  • A suite of former offices, end of 18th century
  • The Order HouseПрика, 18th century
  • Manor of V.Ya.Zhmakina, 1815
  • The John the Baptist church, 1717
  • A suite of park buildings in the Alexander garden, 19 century
  • Mansion of A.Ya. Prozorov, 1872
  • The Alexander Protestan church, 1903
  • The Vyatka Second male gymnasium, 1906
  • The mansion of T.F. Bulychyov, the ship-owner, 1911

The Yurya district
  • The Velikoretskoe architectural-trade fair ensemble, 18-19 centuries; Velikoretskoe (the settlement of)

The town of Slobodsky and the Slobodskoy district

Architectural landmarks (20 are protected by the State, 5 of the 20 are of federal importance):

  • The ensemble of the Christmas nunnery, 19 century, the town of Slobodskoy;
  • Michael-the-Archangel church made of wood, 1610, the town of Slobodskoy;
  • the Catherine cathedral, 1699, the town of Slobodskoy
  • the Holy Trinity church, 18 century, the town of Slobodskoy
  • the Holy Trinity church, the gate and the palisade, 1773, the settlement of Volkovo
  • the bell-tower of the Savior's Transfiguration church, 1823, the town of Slobodskoy;
  • buildings of former shops and and the shopping arcade, 19th century, the town of Slobodskoy;
  • the mansion the Vakhrushevys the merchants, 1908, the settlement of Vakhrushi;
  • the building of the former Anfilatov bank, 1809, the town of Slobodskoy;
  • the mansion of Gusev (the gate and the palisade), 19th century, the town of Slobodskoy

The Oparino district
  • the St.Nicholas church made of wood, 1717, the village of Nizhny Pochinok

The Luza district

Architectural landmarks (13 are protected by the State, 11 of the 13 are of federal importance):

  • the Ressurection cathedral, 1698, the settlement of Lalsk
  • the Epiphany church and the orphanage, 1711-1712, the settlement of Lalsk
  • the Joh the Baptist church, 1714, the settlement of Lalsk
  • the Annunciation cathedral, 1732, the settlement of Lalsk
  • the Church of the Savior, 1730, the settlement of Lalsk
  • the Transfiguration church, 1748-1754, the village of Sloboda
  • the Church of the Protection of the Virgin, 1740, the village of Zaborie

The town of Urzhum and the Urzhum district

Historic landmarks (21 are protected by the State):

  • The building of the school where N.A. Zabolotsky studied (secondary school № 1 of the town of Urzhum);
  • the house where S.M. Kirov was born and lived;
  • the Samartsevs' banya;
  • the building of the former Urzhum town school;
  • the "Noah's ark" house where political exiles lived;
  • the building of the former orpanage;
  • graves of S.M. Kirov's relatives;

Architectural landmarks (28 are protected by the State):

  • Dwelling houses (14 in total) in Sovetskaya street of the town of Urzhum
  • the manor of the Bushkovys in the town of Urzhum, mid-19th cenury
  • the building of the gentry assembly in the town of Urzhum, beginning of the 19th century
  • the building of the theatre in the town of Urzhum, end of the 19th century
  • the Holy Trinity cathedral in the town of Urzhum, 1812-1824, 1895-1900
  • the Peter-and-Paul church in the settlement of Petrovskoe, 1786
  • the curch of the Exaltation of the Cross, 1872, the settlement of Pustoplie
  • the Ascension church, 1820, in the settlement of Rozhdestvenskoe
  • the chapel in the settlement of Arkhangelskoe, 1907

The town of Yaransk
  • the Assumption cathedral with the gates and the palisade, 1790
  • the Holy Trinity cathedral, 1857
  • the bell tower of the Staro-Troitsky cathedral, 1689

The town of Sovetsk
  • Architectural landmarks:
  • the building of the firestation with the watch-tower, the 19th century
  • the Church of the Protection of the Virgin, 1700
