On the territory of the Kirov oblast there are 8 monasteries of them 5 are nunneries. There are more than 180 Orthodox christian churches in the Kirov oblast, 15 of them are situated in the city of Kirov.

The village of Velikoretskoe. The sacred place of the Vyatka land.

The village of Velikoretskoe is the unique landmark of the Vyatka land, it is situated in the Yurya district. Being one of the ancient settlements of the Vyatka region it is rated high on the list of the historic locations of the Russian Federation.

The St.Triphon Assumption monastery

It is located in the historic part of the city of Kirov on the bank of the Vyatka river. The monastery is active. It was founded in 1580. The relics of its founder - St.Triphon of Vyatka - are kept in the monastery. St.Triphon was a man of great intellect and energy, "a prominent enlighter of the small nations settling the Kama and Vyatka lands ".

The ensemble of the monastery made of brick and stone started to take shape in the 17th-19th centuries. The ensemble is made up of the Assumption cathedral (1684-1689), St.Nicholas over-the-Gate church (1692-1695), the Holy Trinity church (1711-1717), the Annunciation church (1728), the Superior's chambers (1719, 1818), the building for the monks (1742, 1831), the palisade and the south-eastern corner tower (the second half of the 18th century), the north-western tower (restored in 1993), the south-western tower (restored in 1994), Monks' cells (1764), a wooden Chapel over the holy spring (restored in 1990), the bell-tower (restored in 1994-1995).

The Transfiguration nunnery

It is an active nunnery situated in the historic center of the city of Kirov. The architectural ensemble of the nunnery as created in the 17th-20th centuries. The ensemble consists of the Transfiguration church (1696), the Tikhvin Mother of Lord church (1838 г.), the cells of the mother Superior and of the mother-treasurer (1839), the wooden nuns' cells (c. 1830), the nunnery's bakery (the mid-19th century), the church of Mother of Lord Soothing our Grievances and Sorrows (1883), the north-western block of nuns' cells. The rilics of St.Victor are kept in the nunnery.

The St.Seraph cathedral

It can be found in the historic center of the city of Kirov. It was designed by an outstanding Vyatka archtecht I.A. Charushin and was built in 1904. A copy of the St.Nicholas of Velikoretskoe miracle-working ikon and the Tikhvin Mother of Lord miracle-working ikon are kept in the cathedral.
