In the oblast there is a persistent growth of the average income per capita. In 2004 the real earnings per capita increased by more than 50% as compared to 2000 thus surpassing the retailing growth rate per capita by 6 percentage points.

The retailing turnover in 2005 was 36.3 bln. roubles, it's 110.4% increase as compared to the 2004 price level.
The population's income from various kinds of property grows too. It's especially noticeable in the secondary real estate market. There has been noticed growth of the population's savings in securities and on savings accounts. The adequacy of the per capita subsistance wage is 1.7 times (in general in the RF it's 2.7 times)
The percentage of the Kirov oblast's population earning less than the subsistance wage is higher as compared to Russia's average numbers. Within the 2000-2004 period this number decreased almost twofold - this is one of the highest rates in the Privolzhsky Federal district.
