Now in the oblast there is a well-developed network of sanatorium-and-spa institutions and recreation centersa significant number of which are situated in the region's specially preserved areas. More over, the federal reserve areas and natural landmarks have a potential for the development of recreational and tourism activities.

There may be a certain prospect of developing theenvironmenta tourism. Currently the following landmarks are actively attracting people, these places of interest are the landmarks of the Nemda river floodplain; the karst lakes (the Shaitan, the Lezhninskoe, the Chvanikha lakes etc) and other landmarks.
