SCIENCE

EDUCATION
Kirov region education system comprises:
- 26 institutions of higher education (and their branches ) , including Vyatka State University , Vyatka State University for Humanities , Vyatka State Academy of Agriculture, Kirov State Academy of Medicine;
- 61 specialized secondary schools;
- 36 institutions of basic vocational education;
- 755 schools and their 66 branches, including 10 gymnasias and 9 lyceums (magnet schools), 61 secondary modern schools with in-depth
study of specific subjects;
- 135 institutions of extended education;
- 28 federal, regional and city innovation and experimental stations.
Over a period of five years Kirov region has retained its place in the top ten regions of Russian Federation with best results in the Uniform
State Exam experiment. The region holds 8th place in the “golden dozen” of Russian Federation regions with most winners and awardees
of All-Russian School Contest.

CULTURE
The following objects are part of the cultural and historic heritage of the region:
- 3,5 thousand historic monuments and cultural property sites, 806 of them are state-protected;
- 5 national culture centers;
- 44 museums;
- 3 theaters, 5 concert halls including Philharmonic Hall, Alexander Roman Catholic Church (organ music concert hall), circus, 5 exhibition
houses;
- 10 kinds of folk arts and crafts. The world-famous original painted Dymkovo toy has long become the symbol of Kirov region. This kind of toy has existed for more than 400 years;
- Permian ,Triassic and Jurassic fossil sites; world’s largest pareiasaur (earliest dinosaurs ) site.

Vyatka and Kirov region was an integral part in the lives and work of renowned artists, writers, musician and other men of culture such as A.I.Herzen, M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, V.G. Korolenko, A.I. Vitberg, A.S. Grin, such representatives of Russian classical painting schools as I.I. Shishkin,V.M. and A.M. Vasnetsovs, composer P.I. Tchaikovsky, great singer F.I. Shalyapin.
